It's not that exiting really. I refreshed the index site and got the pop-up "you have 1 new message waiting for you" clicked on the link and inbox opens in a new window. Closed the Inbox window and refreshed the index window again. The pop-up still wanted to show off, but the message was read - and hence it had to be 0 new messages.
... I think...
