Actually, I have noticed a change in you, Arjen! Much as you might hate to admit it ... you have mellowed ever so slightly! You're not as adamant about things as you were a few years ago! You now take the time to weigh what other people are saying before you rip into them! I think you're on your way to becoming a very admirable man! (Don't shoot the messenger, please!! )
He's being selective in choosing his words!! :) By his own adnission, he's become tired of fighting with everyone that has a different opinion than he. I remember when that happened to me. Was in my mid 20s. I suddenly realized that everyone around me was either just plain stooooopid or was not "enlightened enough" to know what I was talking about. Later, in my 30s, I came to realize that maybe, just maybe, I was the one that was not enlightened enough. Now that I'm mid way thru my 40s. I've realized that I should just shut up most of the time.
That said, I'm starting the Dinosaurs of America (DOA) organization. Looking for charter membership. Not to be confused with the Dead on Arrival organization. (Although, they could be one in the same) We could branch out and become a global org. I can see it now
Teamwork- A few harmless flakes working together can unleash an avalanche of destruction.
I'd sign up for the DOA, but sadly I've run out of ink for my quill.
I would happily join the Dinosaurs! But, shouldn't it be an international thing since this is an international forum? Dinosaurs of the World, perhaps? Doesn't have quite the same ring as DOA, though!

Too bad being 'enlightened' doesn't always go away with age. When I went to look at an apartment once the guy asked me if I was a student, I said no. He asked me how old I was, said 22. He said "we don't normally rent to people under 25 because they have a bunch of kids over for parties, be loud and trash the place." Impressive that he knew me for all of 2 minutes but managed to figure me out. The reality is: social anxiety so parties aren't my thing, I'm an internal quiet person and no ONE is trashing my stuff! Others have looked at me and thought I can't keep a steady job. Worked for the same company for 2 years and was promoted to a supervisory role 6 months ago.
I've had reps refuse to listen to my advice because I'm younger than them. I've over heard some of them say they don't like someone half their age watching over them (that being answering their hands when they have a question about a call). I got promoted because I do my job and do it well, not because of my age. Or having an opinion different from everyone else. "Oh you're young so..." Yes I am, but that's not why I disagree with you.

I am sure all of that is true but it still doesnt change the fact that statistically the fellow at the apt is correct and if I were a landlord... I'd be skeptical too and unfortunately miss out on some great people like yourself that seem more responsible than middle agers like myself.

That's true. It's a shame that people (no matter their age) don't treat others as individuals and find out about each one as an individual, but rather group them all together because of age, sex, religion, whatever. My now 19 year old nephew is off at college on a full scholarship. The kid never missed a day of school in his life and has worked since he was 15. He's a very quiet kid and so is his girlfriend who is going to the same college to become a doctor. He tried to get an apartment on his own, but no one would rent to him because of his age, even though he is without a doubt the most mature and responsible 19 year old I've ever known. I wound up co-signing the lease for him so that he could move out of the dorms and I'm willing to bet that it never comes back to bite me in the butt. He will pay his rent on time as well as his utilities and he won't have loud parties or trash the place. Of that I have no doubt (or I wouldn't have put my credit on the line!).

See, I was always very mature and responsible.....
you have the parties at other people's houses so its their stuff (and not yours) that gets trashed.
On reflection, I've generally always been able to maintain a fairly strict equiligrium of raffishness and respectability. No idea how do I do it, though.
Edit: Probably by failing to spell "equilibrium" correctly.
I almost never host parties, cuz people break stuff not easy to fix

Just America?
How about OLD: Organization of Living Dinosaurs
And I get the name Diplodicus.
I love that name!

People's opinions can change over time. When I was young I thought Disco music was the most horrible music ever, and that nothing could be worse.
Then Rap music became popular
Compared to most Rap music, Disco music sounds wonderful.
Just the opinion of an old dinosaur. :D

When rap first came out.
I looked around and said, "I don't get it.
These are nursery rhymes put to a beat.
Take "Jack and Jill" went up the hill . . . . bebop it a little and you have rap.
Seriously.
Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard . . . .
Hickory, dickory, dock . . . .
There was an old woman who lived in a shoe . . .
beebop them out and you have rap."
Music took a giant leap backward, IMHO.

I can't stand rap music. Just seems people talking really fast about how they're rich and I'm poor while making funny hand motions and at a camera. I just figure anyone can do that.
I'm a rapper talking fast is my thing
I strut down the street and show off my bling
I strut my stuff and make fun of nerds
And say "shizzle" and things that aren't words
I rap that I was poor but now am rich
My video is of fast cars and my bitch
I talk so fast no one understands
While making funny motions with my hands
But the best thing about rap
Is people actually buy this crap.
Sorry, the song came into my head and I couldn't resist. Though I'm a hypocrite because I do like some rap like Eminem.

I can't take the current Rap bands, although I've got to admit I did I used to be into it back when it first became somewhat mainstream (the 80's) and still like some of the earlier bands like Run DMC. The cover they did of Walk this Way with Aerosmith was pretty cool. Anymore though, its just a bunch of thugs (or thug wannabee's) trying to one up each other.

And that one is done to the beat of "There Was an Old Woman"
There was on old woman, Who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children, She didn't know what to do.
She gave them some broth, Without any bread,
Then whipped them all soundly, And sent them off to bed
