Forgot to check in yesterday! Argh!

Lost two pounds the first week so I'm now at 243. Not a great start, but one I'm happy to live with and one that's probably healthy in the long run. Like to push it up to three...

A hearty thank you to everyone for their advice and encouragement and I hope everyone else is donig okay with their personal goals.

Peace

Pretty much anything that gets you sad enough that your gut is wrenching and sore will work. I think the key to it is breaking your heart. Not very cost effective in my opinion.Something like that happened to me last year, but the weight came back and more. Couldn't play my guitar, either. Not even blues.

I lost my one pound for the week. Now, if I can keep that off and lose one more next week.

The divorce thing works but man it hurts. Pretty much anything that gets you sad enough that your gut is wrenching and sore will work. I think the key to it is breaking your heart. Not very cost effective in my opinion.

Also, sustained heart break is counter effective. Eventually you'll start eating to make the pain go away.

I've found losing one's hair is a side effect of losing ones' love relationship. How can that be fair?

Well I got an early start cause as I said earlier just started a 16 week challenge at our local gym. My official weigh in was Jan 2 @ 202.0 lbs (digital scale at gym) After 2 weeks and 12 gruelling workouts (1 day off a week) with proper nutrition I weighed in today at 192.2 lbs a loss of 9.8 over that time. As the add says Do Not Try This At Home (g) This is a combo GVT training and fairly extensive cardio program. If anyone is interested I can PM it to them. But rememeber I am a gym rat and have a fair bit of workout experience. Also this was what I call the easy weight loss as the gain consisted mostly of egg nog & rum over the holiday period. Things will slow down now in the weight loss dept.

Congrats to all those who have lost weight.

I have a friend who is a body-builder who told me something very interesting once. He said there are three ways to lose weight, two are good, but one is best.

He then explained that no matter what your weight or physical shape, almost all people on average get about the same amount of exercise, and eat about the same amount everyday. Even if you just go to an office and sit at a desk, you are exercising a great deal.

So the way to lose weight is,

1) Eat exactly as you've always done, but simply increase your activity. You will lose weight slowly, but surely.

2) Maintain your normal activities, but eat less. Eat smaller portions, no 2nd helpings. You will lose weight slowly, but surely.

3) Cut how much you eat, and increase your activity. This is the way to fast weight loss. And it need not be unhealthy at all. You do not need drastic diets or over exercise. Just cut your portions slightly, and take a walk each day. You will lose weight fast.

I've always thought the problem is that diets starve you from food you love, and too much exercise is just plain exhausting. So, I like what my friend said. Just eat a little less, and do a little more. You can still eat hamburgers and french fries, just not so much. And take a nice walk each day. This is all it takes.

That is wise advice. Consistency is the key. If you make it a habit to be more conscious of what and how much you are eating; and get daily exercise; then those infrequent days when you "blow it" by indulging, or not going for a walk, is not going to make a huge difference in the overall quest for your goal.

Congrats to all those who have lost weight over the past week. And for those who haven't lost weight, don't despair. As they say, "results may vary"... It's a process, like learning guitar...Stick with it :)

Twisted, I wouldn't say eating pizza one time a week would be too bad so long as you keep eating healthy the rest of the week. That being said, On the day you allow yourself grace w/ one meal, why not walk a little more (or whatever excercise you do). keep in mind that as much as nutritional timing plays a part in weight loss, 3600 calories is still a pound if it's comming in or going out of your body. Best of luck to you all, I went through this myself about 2 1/2 years ago. Like quitting smoking, qutting bad food and making lifestyle adjustments gets easier with time. Consistency is key.

Can I get in on this healthy weight loss support group?

Got a treadmill for Christmas and have been getting on 3-4 times a week, but need to improve the food choices I've been making. Watching movies while walking sure makes it easier.

Need to lose about 40 lbs., and even then won't be svelte, but surely much healthier and less painful in the joints. I'm working so hard to learn to play this here guitar, I want to be around a few years to enjoy it! :D

Of course you can! Welcome aboard and welcome to GN as well. Sometimes losing is all about making healthier life style habits. When I was in Chicago, I dropped fifteen pounds easily (and surprisingly) enough simply by not eating while watching television. And I didn't watch all that much television to begin with, maybe five hours a week.

We don't have a television here at the new home, so that trick won't work. Not surprising, though, since moving I've taken up eating while working at the computer! So guess what the first change for the new year had to be? It's helping a lot so far...

Looking forward to hearning from you again Margaret and we'll be seeing you on the boards!

Peace
