I agree Wes, GR, and Jason.
Those are all helpful and valid points. depending on the amount of weight we need to lose, our age, and level of exercise program the weight will come off at different speeds.

Those of us who are a little heavier may see the weight come off a little quicker. Also a newly adopted exercise regime will often shed 4-5 lbs of "water weight" early on. After that you may "plateau" for a bit and not lose as much the next week as your metabloism changes.

I believe you should allow yourself a meal a week to reward yourself for the hard work. It's good to have something to look forward to. Depriving yourself only threatens bingeing

I lost my one pound for the week. Now, if I can keep that off and lose one more next week.

The divorce thing works but man it hurts. Pretty much anything that gets you sad enough that your gut is wrenching and sore will work. I think the key to it is breaking your heart. Not very cost effective in my opinion.

Also, sustained heart break is counter effective. Eventually you'll start eating to make the pain go away.

I've found losing one's hair is a side effect of losing ones' love relationship. How can that be fair?

I shave my head bald so not sure I can relate.
Sorry i missed your post geoo,
congrats to you also!

No problem my friend. Grats to you as well.

Thank you for the welcome, David! Just finished reading through your lesson on getting a better boom-chuck, which is very timely. I'm working on a scaled-down version of From Four Until Late, using an alternating bass boom-chuck.

Anybody else out there deal with creaky knees, ankles, etc? I'd like to pass along something I learned from a physical therapist which has made exercise a teeny weeny bit easier on my knees. He said that walking on a treadmill is gentler on the joints than walking on the pavement, which may seem obvious, but I'd never really thought about it. Also, using a treadmill reduces the chance of injury from the uneven spots in the pavement, curbs, etc. I have funky (loose?) joints that are extremely easily injured, and stepping a little wrong off the edge of the sidewalk or curb caused strained, sore muscles that were sabotaging my exercise program and resolve.

If you're thinking about adding some exercise (especially if you live in a cold climate like me), I recommend a good treadmill, and no, I don't sell them. Look for one that's QUIET, so you can hear your music or movies while you walk.

welcome to the group Margaret,
i agree that treadmills are a good investment if you are going to use them, especially for those of us who live where it's cold for a good portion of the year.
another consideration for those of you who dislike the shock to the joints that jogging may cause is the elliptical trainer. my wife and i are trying to decide between the two. eliptical trainers remove all of the shock to your joints and most also have resistance handles for upper body exercise also.

I started at the first of the year, so I got a little head start.

I'm now 228, down 7lbs, or about 2.5lbs per week. Not quite as fast as Atkins, but hey I'll take it.

OK..... I'll admit it! I DO enjoy the company of men! That's probably part of why I play guitar and golf!

I attempt to play golf. I may joke about attempting to play guitar but with golf it's not all that much a joke. But I love playing.

Nick - way to go! ! ! By the bye, we should talk about the possibilty of your mini-camp idea sometime soon.

Peace

Golf is one of my favorite activities! And, it's also where I get the most exercise. I never take a cart, I always walk the 18 holes. And on some courses the walk is more difficult than the game! :D

Crap, I jumped on the scale and I gained 2 1/2 pounds

I figured since I quit drinking alcohol and eating less and some exercise I would lose, but nooooooo. Maybe it's muscle.
