the prs soapbar singlecut is, for me, the one that got away. i played one in a store, came back a week later to buy it, and it was sold. i haven't seen another one since in that color or with that feel. i assume you meant "soapbar" and not "soapbox".

if you're considering a mexi strat, consider a used usa g&l legacy. i paid 500 for mine.

i have no opinion on epi electrics.

thanks for the info!
depends on what you already have?
What I have is a Squire Strat that I picked up a few years back for about 100.
I'm a bigger fan of the Epi. Now you're back to square 1. :)

The PRS guitars are quite nice. I've played a few of the under $1,000 and was very pleased with the set-up and action. There was one in particular that seemed to be quite hot. It was a single-cut semi-hollow. It's not on their site, but it only went for $515. It wasn't what I was after, but would love to have it still.
Ive fiddeled around with both Epi and PRS (I believe the same type of PRS youre talking about). The Epi I played with was a 3 pickup Les Paul, and I played a semi hollowbody PRS single cutaway, and a PRS SE Custom with a trem bar (something I havent seen since Santana's). One thing I noticed was the PRS had a very wide fretboard. Similar to my classical.
Sorry if that's no help to you, but I always find that when looking for a new guitar, the best method is to take all your life savings to the guitar store and then just wait for the red mist to descend.

Deffinately. I just wanted to hear some different opinions on these guitars. the prs soapbar singlecut is, for me, the one that got away. i played one in a store, came back a week later to buy it, and it was sold. i haven't seen another one since in that color or with that feel. i assume you meant "soapbar" and not "soapbox".

Yes... I did mean soapbar....
Ive never heard of the guitar you mentioned, the usa g&l legacy. But the more and more I play the black gretsch electromatic (By the way, Im still insanely jealous of you Roy :D), the more there is no choice... What Ill probably do, is keep on hitting craigslist and the local music shops... worst case senario, Ill have to save for a few more months.

I play the guitar, I taught myself how to play the guitar, which was a bad decision... because I didn't know how to play it, so I was a sh***y teacher. I would never have went to me. -Mitch Hedberg

g&l is what leo fender started when he sold fender to cbs. their quality is considered better than usa fenders, comparable to their custom shop models. fender's improved recently, but their prices have gone way up, too. they also have more pickup options. you should check them out.

I've been very impressed with the G&Ls that I've had a chance to try, one of which was a George Fullerton Signature.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

I just recent;y bought an Epiphone LP and am very pleased. I also have a CIJ Fender which is a great guitar. Overall I do like the LP more. No experience with PRS, so I can't comment there.
