I'm posting this in opinions and polls as I am interested in peoples thoughts on the subject.

My so and I have been trying to get our band off the ground for a while now. We had a drummer last year, and then were without. RIP Tommy! We then moved foreward with backing tracks to the point where we had 2 sets of music ready to go. There is a problem. My son works nearly full time and is a full time student as well. College started back up today, he doesn't really have the time to practice as much as we need to. No where near the time I have. He has expressed a desire to record origional music. It has been (gasp!) 8 years since we released our debut CD as T-n-T. I plan to re-upload it if anyone is interested in listening that may have missed it. Well, time to get off my dead tuckus and write some music too. Our skill level and equipment has grown exponentially since our last effort as well. What do you think? Is the world ready for a new Wicked Fester album?

Well not to sound like a wisea@@ I think you are asking a guestion only you can answer.

Man I know to well what you are going through with getting the band together etc. Plus you have the added roadblocks of being in a more rural area so finding people has to be a lot harder. I would imagine you would really need to work to find people, like Craigslist, going to open mics etc., post somethign at work and might mean you have to travel a bit to practice.

I have about a 35 min ride when we practice now, not as convinient as when we did it in my basement but it's what I need to do if I want to keep this band together and get out there.

If that's not an option and you want to write originals go for it man whatever makes you happy.

I'm with cnev on this one. Do what you two want. That's how the hobby thing works around here, anyhow. Do your thing. And as one parent to another, if the boy wants to play originals, you play originals. You know how that one goes.

TR I can't imagine your son going to school and working fulltime and finding time to play much. Back in the day I tried that...didn't work out to well I ended up dropping out of college for a couple years to work. (At the time I had a really good job and was making mad money for an 18 yo kid with no bills) reality finally hit though and I went back to school.

At least you two are on the same page musically. I've never really done anything with my daughter and you see by the video I posted the girl can sing but we just have different tastes in music.

I know I'm a strange person in my likes dislikes I really don't have any desire to record etc so that's not an option for me.

If this band were to fall apart I'm not sure what I'd do. I still play a little but noodling around by myself would get old real quick and I'd probably just put all my equipment away. But I guess I have met enough people now that I could attempt to start up again but that's not alot of fun either constantly starting from scratch.

Well sounds like your bolth into it still, so I would work it out the best you guys can. Your sons pretty busy... so I would just work from his cues... do what you can when he has time, and see where it goes from there.

Thanks guys! I am into the recording thing so not a problem. It will work well cause that is 80% of the work for me and he can do his bass parts when he has the time. We are still gonna do plenty of covers Chris, we love them! Just won't have to practice them to get them to performance specs is all. Not like we want to do origonal stuff live. I dug up our old CD and we both got to thinking. Many of you have probably heard this but here is one of our gems from that CD we did way back when!

Thats TF like 8 years ago! Bad computer and a cheap program. Well, still gonna use a cheap free program but they are so much better now!

Just keep it fun and fit the music in when you can. My son has moved back home and is going to college locally and working part time. He's joined me and a friend's Friday night acoustic jam and we're having a blast. The 3 of us are wanting to do the FAWM challenge (write 14 songs in the month of Feb). With our available time, there's no way we'll finish it, but it gives us a challenge and a goal. Especially since I'm the only one who has really ever written lyrics. Whenever my son and I have recorded, I have everything ready for him and he just has to play his part and be done. Sounds like you could do pretty much the same.
