Tri-Nations down under
From correspondents in London
November 22, 2005

THE 2006 Tri-Nations series will be held in the southern hemisphere, the Rugby League International Federation confirmed overnight.

Australia is expected to act as principal host and has also re-confirmed its commitment to staging the 2008 World Cup, the RLIF said.

The decision means Great Britain will play a series of Tests in Australia for the first time since 1992. Since then visits have been restricted to one-off matches.

Ah yes the good old British weather helped us there. It rained at the crucial moment.

The best thing about being British is that we love to laugh at ourselves. Also crucial!!

I've got a question for you guys. I talk to alot of people from Britian in the course of my job, why do you always end conversations with "Cheers" ? We're not having a drink

Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

Ah - we don't always say cheers when we're having a drink. Far too stereotypically Disney's view of the English. Cheers at the end of a conversation is probably a bastardisation of "Tschus" (sp), pronounced "shooss", which is informal German for goodbye; but I don't know for definite.

Cheers, oops

Yep, typical stereotyping....I've never ended a conversation with "cheers" in my life.

Cheerio and toodle-pip, old bean....

Yep, I work with nothing but Europeans too and every single one of you British fellas end the conversation with "Cheers" ;). I kind of like it though. Nothing against my own kind, LOL, but if I followed my dreams I would live over there somewhere. I think, as a general people, the Brits have alot more personality and civility than us American. Not that I am not proud to be from the USA.. Just an observation.

Alot of Aussies say cheers as well at the end of conversations but it's more a "cheers big ears" meaning good-bye
