Hi all,

I am not sure how many fans of Kings of Leon are out there, but I've been a fan since their first EP. They just released their third full-length CD. If you like blues-based, roots rock with some country influence, these guys won't disappoint.

Here's a mini-review of their show at The Moore in Seattle, WA:

I got to take Martin, my 12 year old son, to his second concert, but this time in a small-ish venue (The Moore in Seattle, http://www.themoore.com ). What a treat for me to show Martin what it's like to enjoy a band in a small venue. We had pretty good seats, just 5 rows back to the left of the stage. A perfect vantage point. There is something to be said for being able to see the facial expressions while the song is being sung and the pure joy on the faces of the band members while playing for an appreciative audience.

Snowden opened. Not really my kind of music. At times a dirge-like sound, the vocalist was not great and backing vocals by the bassist were lost in the mix or non-existent. On the other hand, the rhythm section was great. Both Martin and I really liked the drummer and bass player (she had massive energy!). Not a bad show, but not great.

Kings of Leon did not disappoint. I've wanted to see them for the past three years, but this was my first opportunity. They are a very tight live band. They looked pretty fresh (this was their second date of the US tour, first date in Coachella). They looked like they were having a very good time and played to and for the audience. Caleb Followill made a number of comments that we were a better audience than at Coachella. At times he seemed a bit amused by the the joy the audience was taking in the show and noise we were making.

I think the show was close to sold out (The Moore seats about 1500 on main floor and balconies) and the audience seemed like pretty rabid fans, singing along to most of the songs.

They played a lot of their best material, focusing much of their set on their last two albums. They tossed in a number of early classics like Molly's Chambers and California Waiting. The only song I really missed was Holly Roller Novacaine.

I highly recommend seeing Kings of Leon live. A band called The Features is supposed join the tour later and I am told they are a stronger opener than Snowden.

To the best of my recollection, this is the set list and order. Seems like a song or two is missing so I have Martin checking my work:

I wasn't familiar with Kings of Leon but watched a couple vids of them on YouTube after someone (you, probably) posted something from them in the Guess the Riff game a while back. They are an interesting group.

Isn't it great to enjoy a good concert like that with your kid? Two years ago I took my son, who was ten at the time, to a Lonestar concert (their Acoustic Front Porch Tour) in a small venue. Their musicianship was incredible, and it was so up-close and personal. Jimmy Wayne was the solo opening act, and he was excellent, too. Most of the concerts I have seen have been rock concerts, but the country-rock that night was the most awesome concert I have ever seen.

Parenting may not be all fun and games, but I look back on that night and think, yeah, that was one positively memorable experience we shared.
