I bought a music book the other day and in it is "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"
Looking through the song the fingerings and changes looked very easy so I gave it a go, didn't sound right, so i take a closer look and they have open E5 tuning.
All strings are tuned to E except the B string.
They show you to tune the A string down but dont show what direction for the D and G strings ( I assume D up and G down, does that sound right?)
Now looking at the music I see that the A string is rarely played at all.
some of the chords used:
Bsus4 7X0777
A5 5X0555
A7sus4 5X0033 and
E5 000000
That raises a couple of questions.
Why mute the A string if it is the same note as the low E?
Would I be able to get away with tuning the A string up to B instead of all the way down to E?
Anyone play this song?
What tuning and chords do you use?
that is one strange tuning where all but one string is tuned to E.
how would one finger a chord?
looks like I am off to chord finder to take a look at that tuning. bizarre.
I had the music book years ago, and it's been ages since I've even heard the song. I recall that EEEEBE was the tuning (at least for one of the guitars), but it seem liked it was used more for a drone sound than playing full chords (I've seen the tuning refered to as "E Drone" or "E Modal"). A quick Google found a few tabs (whether they're correct or not, I can't say - but they seem close to the way I remember it being in my book):
