Can't really add to that, but I certainly agree!

Yeah, Dogbite,
When the right mood and circumstances come along, which inevitably happens and you find this music you'll be blessed to have it. It greatly enhanced a very meaningful (mostly non music) project that I'll be working on for some time to come. The music is a creative mood enhancer of a higher order and was virtually priceless to me. I can only repay Steinar by doing some beautiful and meaningful work on this project because it is worth alot more than the cost of the CD.

I haven't even gotten into the song 'Poet on the Radio' yet. That is some awesome work.

I don't even have the whole CD yet, won't be able to get it until after the 1st.

I have met alot of inspiring people on these groups and heard some great music from them. Steinars music is right up in the top row.

He might be interested to know that he beat out Sonny Landreth's Grant Street by a considerable margin for most important CD for me to buy, and I can count the number of CDs I buy in a year on one hand, so they have to be really good.

I hope that someday, in some way, I can make a contribution of this level.

Thanks to everybody, really,

phangeaux

phangeaux. I feel the same as you. never thought I would be inspired from a computer forum. never thought I would meet people from around the world; much less , have meaningful conversations with them. never would have thought I'd meet folks in my own neighborhood and play music with them. incredible.

finally, I hope, have my new computer up and running. this will be the 3rd one in a month and a half; lots of crashes.
hopefully, Dell has fixed it.
Ive been anxious to share my experiences, use the Powertab that rparker sent me, upload samples of my playing and contribute here in a more meaningful way.

actually I may have lots of time. something strange is going on at work. Im all angst ridden tonight as I may be losing my job. hopefully it is merely an incorrect read about my boss. nothing I can do about it tonight so I'll play my guitar!

well, my computer had more problems. learned that AOL that I dont use caused problems. we removed it.
he boss isnt at work today, so I guess I still have my job.

What I have heard of Steinar's work from the SGF has been impressive, but my CD purchasing power has been on the low end lately. I will say though that the New Age tag doesn't quite make it for me, I would think more along the lines of progressive something or other; I actually hate labels so I'll stop.
I see pretty pictures when I hear him play, how's that? LOL

I would literally go anywhere to see Steinar and Sugino Nob on the same bill...

Oh, thanks! I'm always looking for some 'cinematic' feel in the music I make, I hope I can get the opportunity to make music for a movie sometimes. Closest I've come so far was a six-episode TV series (a documentary), and that was a great job to do.

Sugino sent me a very cool DVD a while back, a live TV show of him and a Japanese singer/songwriter. His playing was great on it, going from very atmospheric 'soundscapes' to gritty overdriven stuff. No band, just him and the other guy on vocals and acoustic guitar.

Personally I don't have any concrete plans of putting a band together at the moment, I did a job this summer that was supposed to be the 'debut' of a band (sort of) and it was a slap in the face because one of the guys I'd hired hadn't prepared properly, even after having the CD for over 3 months. So that kinda put me off...
I'm also not very comfortable with being a frontman, I'm much happier as a sideman for others, preferably good singer/songwriters. I jokingly refer to myself as "a David Lindley still looking for my Jackson Browne", if you know what I mean.
Another thing is that it's hard to find places to play the kind of music I do since it doesn't really fit into any specific category - it's too 'gentle' for the rock clubs, too 'artsy' for the blues clubs, too noisy and 'rock and roll' for the jazz and 'arts' clubs... you get the idea...

I have started working (very slowly) on new material, and it will probably be a lot more acoustic than this one,- but hopefully also more adventurous, musically... We'll see... Don't expect anything until at least a year from now, I work very slow (unless it's an assignment and I have a deadline), don't want to rush anything.

Steinar, have you ever been a part of 'compilation' type CDs? Gather a bunch of other artists in your area and everybody record one or two tunes they like best, and then call it something catchy and see if it'll sell. Maybe get together with some of the guys you play festivals with and everybody gets exposure at the same time.

Just an idea if you haven't tried it already :)
