First piece of advice I got when I picked up a slide was about muting behind the slide - I was told it prevented unwanted harmonics. Like Crow, it's my natural way of playing - occasionally, I'll let the strings ring, especially if I'm at the 5th, 7th or 12th frets....even play harmonics at those frets for a bit of variety.

I've been playing a lot in standard tuning lately, though, and as Ric says, then it becomes very important to mute unwanted strings. I normally do it with my right hand, but it's a question of experimenting and finding what suits you best.

:D :D :D

Steinar - awesome pics with that post! It's inspired me to dig out my cheapo slide and practice playing some...

Anyone heard any jazzslide yet?

Yes. And Jerry Douglas plays some killer jazz on his dobro.
