Searching For the Crossroads

I’m searching for the crossroads, where Robert sold his soul
Searching for the crossroads where Robert Johnson sold his soul
I want to go I want to go, I want to do the same
I want to do the same

He went to the crossroads with his guitar in his hand
He went down to that crossroads guitar in hand
He made a deal with Devil, I want to do the same
I want to do the same

Well he left the crossroads in his walking shoes
He left the crossroads, wearing his walking shoes
He was known ever after as the king of Delta Blues
He’s the King of the Blues

I ‘m searching for the crossroads, I want to trade my soul
I'm going to the crossroads, I don't need it anymore
Robert made a deal with the Devil, I want to do the same
I want to do the same

The hardest part of these assignments is finding something that I want to write about. The melody for this is utterly and hopelessly stolen from "Love In Vain" which Robert Johnson stole from others.

Hi John,

Good start :D The lyrics don't really move a story along much but for blues it's more about the showmanship.

Suggestion:
Consider repeating the title in each first line......for example......

I’m searching for the crossroads, where Robert sold his soul
Searching for the crossroads where Robert Johnson sold his soul
I want to go I want to go, I want to do the same
I want to do the same

I’m searching for the crossroads, with my guitar in my hand
Just like Robert Johnson at that crossroads guitar in hand
He made a deal with Devil, I want to do the same
I want to do the same

I’m searching for the crossroads, in my walking shoes
Just like Robert Johnson left the crossroads, wearing his walking shoes
He was known ever after as the king of Delta Blues
He’s the King of the Blues

I ‘m searching for the crossroads, I want to trade my soul
I'm going to the crossroads, I don't need it anymore
Robert made a deal with the Devil, I want to do the same
I want to do the same

Thanks for sharing :D

James

Great ideas.
I was trying to follow the format of the "Love in Vain" lyric. The traditional blues lines are basically repeated with a different delivery and possibly a slight change in lyric.
I used "station" for my template That's why I had the word "crossroads" fall where it did in each line, at the beginning of the second measure of each line.

Here are two recordings by Robert Johnson. The lyric below is from the second of the two.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BkPm8JIJJQ

And followed her to the station with my suitcase in my hand
And I followed that woman to the station with a suitcase in my hand
Well, it's hard to tell, it's hard to tell when all your love's in vain
All your love's in vain

When the train rolled up to the station and I looked her in the eye
When the train rolled up to the station and I looked her in the eye
Well, I felt lonesome, I was lonesome and I could not help but cry
All my love's in vain

When the train, it left the station with two lights on behind
When the train, it left the station with two lights on behind
Well, the blue light was my blues and the red light was my mind
All my love's in vain

Ou hou ou ou ou
hoo, Willie Mae
Oh oh oh oh oh hey
hoo, Willie Mae
Ou ou ou ou ou ou hee vee oh woe All my love's in vain

Robert Johnson.
+1 I'd say the song is heavily based on the showmanship (guitar skills & vocal delivery).....but there is a slice of a story as well to kick start the imagination......

.....I'd say you did good using one song as a blue print for another.....that can make it hard to think of new melodies and chord progressions, but the blues is a generic enough template to not have that problem.
