Since I knew this was one of Alan's favorites, I made a really rough draft of this and sent it off to Adam this morning (his automatic reply says it'll go up online Friday).
Alan, if you'd like I can send it directly to you as well. Let me know.
In the MP3 there is only twelve string guitar and voice, both showing noticeable signs of fatigue. My idea for the "finished" version will be to add a single instrument with each successive verse, allowing that instrument a short solo to start its verse. I'm thinking bass (obviously), maybe slide guitar, piano (honkytonk?), fiddle, accordian, slide whistle or harmonica. But I'm open to suggestion and would love to hear your ideas.
Peace
Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaassseee.

It's on its way, sir! I think I sent it to your "work" email, so if you don't get it, let me know (and give me a better @ddress!).
Peace
I'll look out for this. Alan's enthusiasm has my interest piqued.

You are what you eat, eat well
This was from, what? week 13 or something? The assignment was to write something "food related" and I had two airplane trips that left me with way too much time on my hands.
Lyrics are as follows:
Dinner With Death (still just a working title)
I rechecked the invitation - gothic letters red as wine
"The Deaths cordially invite you and your lovely wife to dine
Say sevenish this Saturday - we hope to see you there"
I showed it to my wife who sighed "I've not a thing to wear"
Now our family and the Deaths go back way back before my time
I think his father's father's father's father went to school with mine
But between careers and family it's just so hard to keep in touch
So I wrote "We'll see you Saturday" and "Thank you very much"
At the appointed date and time we stood and knocked upon his door
Surprised to find I couldn't wait to see my friend once more
I said "Hey pal, you look like Death!" - an old joke, still he laughed
But the smile was touched with sadness like a family photograph
The meal of course was sumptuous - both he and she could cook
Their recipes won contests and there'd been talk of a book
The usual chat of politics, responsibility and fault
"Can't trust anybody anymore," Death said, "please pass the salt."
"The kids?" I asked "Are at a concert" his lovely mate replied
"Some metal goth alternative" said Death, rolling his eyes
I laughed and said "Remember when we swore we'd never say
'I can't believe the things these kids are listening to these days!'" Â
After dessert the ladies looked through the past summer's souvenirs
While Death and I sat on the porch and he poured out some beers
I said, "Seriously, my friend, are you quite certain you're alright?" Â
And he smiled, "I'm simply growing old and tired of this life."
"Don't you ever wonder why we do this every day? Â
I'd say "there must be more" but I know how you hate cliches"
It was my turn to smile, a mirrored sad smile I suspect
"I'll see your cliche and raise it - there is life within us yet"
Our talk returned to little things: the kids, the schools, the folks
Finding comfort in the sharing of old stories and old jokes
Outside huge clouds were parting underneath the latest moon
Death hugged us at the door and said "let's do this again real soon" Â
The ride back home was quiet, she was thinking I suppose
Of all the smiles and tears gone by and those still yet to go
I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and I kissed her on the head
Then we turned out the last light and clung together in our bed
Music, as you'll hear, is simply going down (and up) from C to G over and over again.
Lines one and three are (two beats each):
Cadd9 Â - Â x32033
G/B Â - Â X20033
Am7sus4 - X02033
G/B - X20033
and lines two and four are (two beats each):
Cadd9 Â - Â x32033
G/B Â - Â X20033
Am7sus4 - X02033
G - 320033

:o
I'm new here so it's the first time I'm seen it, that was *great*!
This song has to win the Best Lyrics award, it's absolutely top class.
The mp3 is clear and loud and I played it over and over last night. I kept expecting to hear the chorus from "Reeling In The Years" sneak in there.
Go and download this song now - if you don't like it, you must be already dead.
Best,
Alan :-)

Download? Where? ???
Top shelf stuff for sure!
I want to hear it too.
I sent it to Adam's page:
to be posted but as of Monday morning (7:20 Chicago) it wasn't up yet. I imagine Adam's busy with other stuff.
Anyway, I'd be happy to email an MP3 to whomever would like the rough copy. Just write me direct (dhodge@guitarnoise.com) or IM me. The MP3 is 3.91 MB in size, so make sure you can receive something that big.
Peace
Just picked it up - thanks for the e-mail.
That is one of the best songs I have ever heard - not just from this site or this group but anywhere.
Congratulations on a brilliant song ;D ;D

Hi Jamir
It's sent! I emailed it from my work @drress ([email protected]) because it handles large files better. Hope you enjoy it and looking forward to your comments.

Absolutely hilarious. Infectious in a non life threatening sort of way. Really well done.
Can I do the Masterpiece theatre English accent version of Death next time we play?

But of course, good sir. I'm thinking "Big Daddy" Greg can lay down some excellent "metal goth alternative" sounds... ;)
