Hi Lotto King, good to hear from you again. :)

I might try your voice remedy next time, although it might have to be a glass of lubricating red wine. I'm not big on whisky. Nervous is right, and also "uncertain" due to lack of proper practice. Will improve!

Don't hide behind the husky voice dodge mate. Remember Lee Marvin's version of "I Was Born Under a Wandering Star"?? Sounded like it was strained through a wheelbarrow full of mallee ash. Still worked though. :D

And what about Tom Waits? Or Jimmy Barnes if you want an example closer to home. He sounds like someone roughs up his vocal chords with a cheese grater every night....

Avago! :P

hilch, I was 46 the first time I tried to sing... I still can't sing..but I don't let that stop me   The trick is to pick or write a song that works with your voice, I can sing Little red rooster for some reason, But i tried "I can't quit You " and it clears a room in seconds flat

Hey Chris,

Another MP3! Good work. You pushed yourself more vocally this time, and though there were some snafus, you're on your way. Keep it up. I've been singing for over 25 years (recreationally), but I've found that doing this sort of thing and performing and just letting lose in the car gave me a lot more confidence and showed me my strengths and weaknesses too.

Nice guitar work too. As soon as you mentioned in one post how you did it, I grabbed my guitar and started playing it.

Lyrically, funny stuff. As such, I'm not going to try to analyse it too much, but the last verse, the way you leave us in suspense after carrying us along for the whole adventure... I'm not sure who is more the bastard! :)

Well, I read most of the posts here before writing this, but I'm still laughing after that fantastic ending. I'm playing Baldurs Gate at the moment and there is a fair amount of reloading involved (and other vocal things we'll leave untouched :) )

I was thinking I should give you some advice on singing, but SlowPlay has been singin 20 years longer, so... just let go in your car or whenever you're humming along while playing guitar as well. Most of the advice I could have given you is already posted here. I guess I won't be able to tell the story of when I bought my first guitar and knew the D and Em chords, sat in my room and sang and played the same song till my fingers hurt (and then some....) :)

As for the title, I don't know if I'm just out of tune here, but I didn't see that coming. Nice one!

Actually it was mostly snafus, punctuated by the occasional intended note. But as you say "I'm on my way". And I really hope that by posting something that anybody can hear is very amateurish vocally I'll encourage others to relax and do the same. That's what this place is for. :)
Nice guitar work too. As soon as you mentioned in one post how you did it, I grabbed my guitar and started playing it.

That's a memorable milestone for me mate. Somebody else actually played a piece of music that I created. That's a first, and it was... um... not sure how to put it... but it gave me an instant 4 pints of Guinness feeling if you know what I mean. :D Thanks for posting that you played it.
the last verse, the way you leave us in suspense after carrying us along for the whole adventure... I'm not sure who is more the bastard! :)

That was a total cop out on my part, but I just honestly couldn't remember what I did do, and I couldn't think of a suitably impressive deed to finish with. So I put the triumphant 'surprise' in instead.
I was once told I have a good voice for mimes  :D

:D :D And Van Gogh's ear for music too???

42 on the 17 September

Happy Birthday for tomorrow mate

Technically, I'm old enough to be your father. If I can start public singing last week - you can start next week.

Cheers, Chris

Excellent!

When I've spent as much time playing guitar as I spent on Baldur's Gate, I'll be concert standard. 8)

4 times through the original BG, and played the add ons and follow up too.

Never mind the mis-spent youth, I had a mis-spent middle age instead.

I think I'll have to run through it again soon. I started as a mage and thought I'd be the next Gandalf, uberpowerful and almighty, evil and feared. I turned out to be the sweetest little boy who could cast one lousy magic missile before the wind blew me over and killed me... But I'm getting there

Can't wait to get started with BG2.. hmm.. I think my guitar is getting jealous

I was thinking I should give you some advice on singing, but SlowPlay has been singin 20 years longer, so...

I said I've been singing recreationally for that long. I am by no means an expert; if fact I hope to be able to take voice lessons in the semi-near future.

My point is that any advice you can give is great. I grew up singing so I won't be a good teacher. I'm from the wade-in-and-get-your-hands-dirty school of learning, and that doesn't work for everyone.

Thanks for the encouragement chris ( DAD :o :o :o :o )

and thanks for the b'day wishes but if I write song and post just me singing that would be just plain terrible , I'm only learning this guitar gig thing I can sort of stumble through Kiss An Angel Goodmorning by Charlie Pride , am getting lessons but I am a very slow learner ( hope you understand that  )

Just began learning B7 / E / A moving fingers around the fret board , can play G / C / D / D7 fairly well . Don't know how to get a tune though my tutor will be back from holidays soon so I'll get his help sooo keep tuned in on this channel real soon ( trust me I'll make your voice sound like clapton / Lennon / Segar well you get the picture )

But my playing is what is holding me back at the moment when that is reasonable I will be posting MP3 ? is that what they are called all the time

be nice
hilch

by the way I love all different kinds of music , Don McLeans American Pie is my holy grail , I WANT TO PLAY THAT SOOO BAD , I reckon I could sing a pretty mean version of it ( or was that because of the beer ???)
