Ok... I saw the topic and was like, what movie? I need something odd... and not particularly good. The answer came to me in a dream the next morning as I awoke to some random lines about trying to explain the movie Dune.
Ok, that was Monday... then I had to actually watch (most of) it again, then do internet searches for the vocabulary... then as I finished I actually checked the book out of the library (well, I was just looking for a book, and there it was... the books supposed to be brilliant).
If you haven't seen it, you can always wiki it to see why people think its so bad (even if I secretly like certain aspects of the movie, I must admit they did a poor job). So here's the song that should have rolled at the end of the credits.
Dune Explained
In the year one oh one nine one
When Shaddam the fourth was Padishah
And the Spacing Guild was concerned about malange on Arrakis
And the Bene Gesseret tried to perfect
Their prophesied Kwisatz Haderach
And Shaddam Corrino commanded the Sardaukar
Caladan, Giedi Prime and Kaitan
And planet Arrakis, full of sand
Form the center of the plot to…
Du, Du, Du… Dune
Oh, Du, Du, Du, … yeah, it's Dune
The producers would like to take the time
To say that we apologize
For creating something so hard to understand
You see we had just thirteen years
To write the script you've just seen here
And that forty million budget held us back
But critics and viewers agree
They really hated this movie
It was dark, oppressive, and just made no sense
So we gave the glossary at the door
Read it in the dark to explain this more
We thought subtitles would be a little much
And we thought we'd hire Jeremy here
To sing a song, put you in good cheer
And explain a bit about a plot point or two…
In Du, Du, Du… Dune
Oh, Du, Du, Du, … thanks for watching Dune
The character list was bit too long
Thought we'd compress it in this song
And tell you which ones that you should know
Paul Atreides is the leading man
Keeps having a dream with a flying hand
And he turns sort of god-like in the end
Next in line is the Baron Harkonnen
He's all about fat, flying and gloating
He'll pull heart plugs to keep his slaves in line
We got Sting to play the Harkonnen Feyd,
But you won't hear him on the soundtrack today
Even though he'd be better at writing this song than me
Next on the left is Patrick Stewart
Says he's an ass workin' in the desert
Don't call him Picard cause that's another show
Then there Leto, Jessica, and Thufir
Duncan, Irulan, and Stilgar
Shadout Mapes, Piter De Vries to name a few
Haven't told you ‘bout Paul's Fremen soldier pals
or the green haired hologram named Al
But we know your lost because you're watching
Du, Du, Du… Dune
Oh, Du, Du, Du, … thanks for paying to watch Dune

Ahhhh, memories of one of my favorite books, ruined by a movie (although the sci-fi channel mini series was really good)
thanks for paying to watch Dune

In Space, no one can hear me sing!
Jeremy,
Yeah...this kind of reminds me of War and Peace...just to say you got through it is an accomplishment in and of itself :? ....but no mention of spice, blue eyes or giant worms? That's about all I remembered. But you did get the sand :check: the fat guy :check: heart plugs :check: Sting :check:
Well the lyrics and research seem like the tougher part of the song, so whip out that mp3!
James
Very tongue in cheek, very good

to be honest, I don't think it is very dynamic, but i think that could be worked out with a rock band behind it(?)
no mention of spice, blue eyes or giant worms?
well, the spice is the "melange", and yeah, thought of worms, but didn't want the song to be as long as the book :)
Ahhhh, memories of one of my favorite books, ruined by a movie (although the sci-fi channel mini series was really good)
yeah... actually, I "accidentally" watched the sci-fi channel version first (checked the wrong video out at the library) then when I watched the older version a couple days later, i could actually understand it despite itself, and could enjoy some of the visuals created. I was going to include a line about that, how you can always check out the Sci-Fi Channel version from your library "shelved between Dumbo and Dunston Checks In", but again "didn't want the song to be as long as the book :) "

Amazing . . . you pulled it off. :)
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
well, the spice is the "melange",
Oops! My bad.
Sounding good :D
Suggestion:
Consider one more variation to have a little contrast to the melody. Right now you have G Bm C G ...maybe play that 2x then try something like C D G Em C D /
James
yeah, you're right James, it needs a bit more musical variety.
also, I think it would be good to change "malange" to "spice" in the first verse since the story basically revolves around spice and only a Dune geek would get the switch... but then, only a Dune geek would get the song.
and how's this change? I think that would satisfy other parts.
Then there Leto, Jessica, and Thufir
Duncan, Irulan, and some worms
Shadout Mapes, Piter De Vries to name a few

ps:+10 point to anyone who can explain this line:
or the green haired hologram named Al
since there aren't any characters named al that have green hair

He appeared as a Hologram in Live Earth events around the world . . .

Time to Buy a Quad - Biggest Sand Dunes Get Bigger with Climate Change

One of the many other "changes" (benefits?) to come our way, scientists now predict, is the growth in the worlds largest sand dunes, reports New Scientist this week. We're talking sand dunes that are 500 meters or greater and we're definitely not advocating for racing quads over sand dunes this tall (or any height for that matter).

nope, that's not it - wasn't expecting such a stretch!... I'll give a hint - similar to the references in these lines
We got Sting to play the Harkonnen Feyd,
But you won't hear him on the soundtrack today
Even though he'd be better at writing this song than me
Next on the left is Patrick Stewart
Says he's an donkey workin' in the desert
Don't call him Picard cause that's another show
... but the actor's name isn't Al...

Dean Stockwell from Quantum Leap . . .
played an Admiral whose name was Al and appeared as a hologram . . .
and had the lead role in the 1948 movie "The Boy with Green Hair" . . . tearjerker movie . . . if I recall correctly.
