Aw, Vic, I'll agree with everyone that this is magnificent!
Glad to see that your muse has turned to a brighter side for a bit

This really is beautiful and cheering me up no end, while retaining a melancholy feel (which I always am a sucker for. and I love songs featuring the sea :) ) and not becoming sentimental anywhere. Well done!

As for the syllables/line lengths in some places, I was mainly wondering about the firstborn baby girl line, but as you mentioned it already, I think it's gonna work out  Also I am very fond of the archaic language!

As to this line:
Her father's eyes and colouring, her mother's face so fair,
To me, it seems natural enough to keep "her father's" (instead of "my"); however, I was wondering if "colouring" and "fair" are not the same thing? Don't they both refer to the skin tone? I thought "colouring" felt a little awkward.. but that's just my personal, subjective opinion  Or does "colouring" refer to the baby's hair? That'd be nice, then. :D
Just my 2 cents.

I can almost hear this and am very curious to see how it turns out (oh my, a mandolin! :D ), so keep perservering!!
The music is going to turn out the way you want it in the end, I'm sure :D

Thank you for sharing and good luck with the music!
Cheers,
straycat.

Well, it took a while, but I finally got the music right for this song! I've recorded a very rough demo version which you can hear at http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11272525&q=hi&newref=1 - only had time for one quick take, and I've no idea what the sound quality's going to be like - it's been recorded on a 7-year-old laptop which is still running on Windows XP and is as slow as a tortoise who's stepped in a jar of treacle trying to climb a steep flight of stairs. Backwards. And blindfolded.

Opinions, as always, are very welcome.....

And I may have a little more time to re-record this tomorrow.....if I can borrow the daughter's new laptop, we might be getting somewhere.....

:D :D :D

I admire that you have continued to work on this. I gave it 5 stars.
The recording is rough, as you stated. Sounds like you are using a 12 string. Most of my recording is done in one take on a laptop with a built in mic. I hope to improve the equipment next time I record.

Hi Vic,

Sounding good. I like the musical lick you have :D Whatever setting you have with a reverb or delay gives the production a "Beatles" quality from their psychedelic period.

Thanks for sharing :D

Vic, extra points for persistence.

It does have a Beatles quality, maybe more of a John Lennon quality. Very nice.

I couldn't figure out how to get to your main Soundclick page. I'd love to take a look at the lyrics. I'm assuming that they probably changed since you last posted them.

Thanks, Renee...I don't think they've changed very much at all from the original post; not that I don't listen to suggestions, but sometimes you just have to go with your gut feeling about a song. I did like Pbee's suggestion, but it just didn't sound right when I sang it.....and it took me almost two years to get the music right (open G, capoed at the third fret so the key's Bb, and throwing in an intro melody as welll....that was a lot of work!!!)

Anyway, the main page is at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=225059 .....

:D :D :D
