I understood there to be 4 major modes - Ionian, Dorian (vi#), Lydian (IV#) and Mixolydian (viib), two minor modes - Aeolian and Phrygian (iib) and one cuckoo - Locrian
I got:
I
Don't
Play
Loud - (Lydian)
Music
After
Lunch - (Locrian)
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

Nick, I'm laughing, but I'm getting up there to middle age, so, I guess that will soon not apply. When I guessed there were 7 modes I assumed from one scale: the major. Then we can use Nick's layout. All I know is I now have a huge respect for the lead player because it seems to me SO much harder than playing rhythm. Let me know your opinions. BTW, Nick, you're a rhythm guy, right? How did you 'change" or learn about lead work? Actually, that question applies to everyone. I just tuned my guitar so I'm going to run through some chords then poorly try some major box scale like G Ionian and maybe D Dorian. It will only last 10 minutes and then back to chords and playing along with my favorite songs or songs I'm learning.
