I was searching the net for some info on banjo picking and Google directed me right back here to good old guitarnoise.com!

Turns out there are three lessons here by Russ Sprouse which I never knew about:

  • Introduction to the 5-String Banjo

  • Banjo Basics

  • Mastering the Neck of the 5-String Banjo
  • and they certainly live up to GN's reputation for top class teaching material!

It took all of 5 minutes for me to retune two strings on my acoustic and start learning some banjo rolls. I have recently been influenced by this style and wanted to incorporate it into my playing. I couldn't have found a better place to start.

I highly recommend anyone who is mildly interested in fingerpicking or bluegrass styles to check out these lessons!

Thanks, A lefty five string is the next instrument on my list. So I'll be putting those lessons to good use, hopefully next Christmas. Folk of the Woods also have some great lessons.

I was surprised too. Good detective work!
