I've had an Ibanez acoustic guitar (6-string) for almost two years now. I recently changed all the strings, which gave me a huge improvement on the sound and sustain of the instrument (I'm usually pretty broke so I don't change my strings as often as I'd like). Starting last week my sweet Gladys is not putting out the sound she usually does. I don't know what's going on, it's like the sound is being muffled. I alternate between playing with a pick and bare fingers, and in both situations I don't have the volume coming out of the soundhole like I used to. Any ideas? It's not totally quiet, it just sounds... different.

How old are those "new" strings?

You can get strings for pretty cheap if you look around.

What brand/type do you use when you do change them?

The strings are admittedly about six months+, but they were in their package in a drawer. Coated D'addario (sp?) extended play strings. They did seem to lose their luster pretty quick though, but they don't seem corroded. They are nice and shiny still.

Hmmm 6 months is a bit long, even for coated stings.

I've never used those particular strings, but I'm a bit surprised that they dropped off quickly.
