My dad just made this acoustic drumset with practice pads for snares, putting rubber on top of the splash cymbals and hi hat.

My question is that as I have fruity loops (drum machine proggie), can I like use it as sounds for the snare. For example, if I hit the snare pad, the sound would come out from my PC just like it would through the module.

My dad just got a few drum triggers for 'em. Any ideas? Do I need any new equipment? My dad don't wanna waste 700 bucks on a module here in Singapore.

I don't think a low-end drum-synth should be $700 anywhere on the planet, but I could be wrong. Look at Roland or Yamaha...

However, I think there should be a trigger-to-MIDI converter box somewhere... I'll have to look.

Well if you've already got Fruity Loops, that in essence can act as your drum module - whether using samples, or sounds generated by synthesis. The part I'm not entirely sure about his how you'd get that into your PC. Obviously you'd need a MIDI interface of some kind. This is usually in the form of a gameport to MIDI adapter, or if you have a specialist music card, it will have its own special connector.

What kind of connection does your drum trigger output? Is it quarter inch, like on an eKit? Cos I'm thinking you could always buy a really cheap drum "brain" (from one of the lower end TD kits for example) and then just bypass the sounds from it and use it simply as a MIDI router for as many triggers as you want. Seems a bit of a waste I know, but that's the only way I can think of at the moment....

Another factor in this, is if your PC is up to the task of triggering samples in real time with no delay. You need a fairly good, dedicated music soundcard to be able to trigger samples live, without a huge delay between hitting, and hearing :)

Will think on this some more.....
