i saw in another thread that you're supposed to use an acoustic amp with an acoustic guitar and that you're not supposed to use an electric amp with an acoustic guitar. is there any other reason for this except sounding bad? will it hurt the electronics on the guitar in any way?
It'll do no harm whatsoever. Acoustic amps are closer to HiFi amps, in that they are not designed to distort, but rather reproduce the original sound as truly as possible.
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

PTK,
As Greybeard said, it won't harm your guitar or amp in any way. I've done it hundreds of times, as does the other guitarist in my band, and I know plenty of other guitarists who do the same. The sound doesn't sound "bad". You might want to ad some Chorus and Reverb effects.

If you want it to sound "acoustic," keep the gain way down.
