I remember ambushing my parents about getting a dog for years.....

i got a new friend.

aw, i got a new friend
she smells like the first days of winter
and, boy, can she run

yep, i got a new friend
and when she howls with sadness, pain or disappointment
i can't help but join right in

but it's best in the morning, yea,
when the wood's still sleepy
and the meadow is ours
and she follows me
tag or hide and seek

yay, i got a new friend
and she's best in the morning
when she bellows with laughter
puts her hand on my head
and we yap in the grass
trying to guess our breakfast
from the clouds strolling past

yea, i got a new friend.

Is it "boy, can she run" or "boy, she can run"?
Oh, and for the music, imagine something along the lines of what dear Akiine is doing :D

Cheers,
straycat.

Hi Straycat,

Looking like a good start :D

"aw, i got a new friend

and, boy, can she run"

"trying to guess our breakfast
from the clouds strolling past"

I like these lines a lot :D

You gave me a new idea to try....I like your pattern of diving deeper into the details....I think my tendency is to try to paint the big picture and capture a novel in a song.....but you seem to highlight the details of a moment which, for me at least, creates intimacy.

"puts her hand on my head" This line seems a bit awkward as dogs have paws....so maybe...."puts her paw(s) on my head" or maybe "puts her paws on my shoulders"
Is it "boy, can she run" or "boy, she can run"?
Either works...both are acceptable

James

I like this one, too. Reminds me of when my six-year-old daughter brought a mangy, horrible mongrel home from her mothers where it had been neglected - we called it Lady, though anything more unladylike would be hard to imagine! She became a much-loved member of our family for many years and I still miss her.

Sentimental, but nicely so - not sickly sweet, but a happy song.

:D :D :D

actually, it's from the point of view of a dog who's just been adopted by a family and making friends with the girl in that family. :D
