Congratulations Aussies.

Its something when the Aussies get excited for QUALIFYING for something!!!!

ha ha.

Seems England have made quite a habit of qualifying for this particular tournament. A bit like we are going to make a habit of hanging onto the Ashes.......

Its great being a Pom at the moment, nothing like a bit of tattered green and gold to cheer us all up....

I've lit the firework, i am now retiring to a safe distance...

I remember the German crowd in 1974 cheering for Australia whilst they were losing three-nil to West Germany in the group stages last time they qualified. Germany went on to win the cup that year.

Good luck guys - compare the pleasure of your performance in getting there with the England team's crucifixion after they get beaten in the opening game by the Blind School Sunday Thirds. At least your media don't expect your team to bring home the cup.

Best,

A :-)

might win this little competition being held in Germany next year ...

Isn't amazing how The Britsh Lions don't get much support .... has it something to do with the fact they can beat Russia , but won't play the Americans because they Might get beaten .......

I'll go now enjoy the world cup Matt but you know I will be cheering for 2 teams now

1-Australia

2-Any team playing the poms

they don't make a font big enough for that "MIGHT"!!!

Seriously its a great achievement. Uraguay have an excellent World Cup pedigree so to knock them out is a job well done. I heard the Aussie commentary on the penalties, it was replayed here on Radio Five Live. You would think they had won the cup! it went absolutely mad when the final penalty went in, great moment.

Wishing the Aussies all the best for the World Cup, whatever happens enjoy it. Alan is right, for us Brits its just a torturous experience, our Press thinks we are either useless (against Northern Island) or world beaters (against Argentina). The fact is we are pretty good but only if we play as a team. As Greece showed everyone in the European championships, a bunch of reasonable players playing as a team, will beat a bunch of highly paid superstars playing as individuals.

If we get drawn to play you, I look forward to a bit of banter on this forum with you!

All the best

Matt

All in good fun

take care

Hilch

p.s

It's actually really good that no-one expects us to to do any good for a change , like your football team when we lost the ashes it was like .... a funeral here ... the media were calling for heads , Warne , Gillispie , Hayden and lots of others

The Ashes here was a fantastic event. OK we won - by a hairs breadth. Could easily have gone the other way, that's for sure. It was sport at its best though, really compelling and see sawing one way then the other, fantastic.

Interestingly the person that came out of it with most kudos and respect here was Shane Warne. Even my kids (8 and 4) watched almost every ball of the last 2 tests, and couldn't get enough of Shane.

Sure, the guys a bit of a wrong 'un at times, much of which is media cr*p anyway, but he played his heart out - some of his batting was a joy to watch. As for his bowling, well it had us all spellbound.

great summer - even if we had lost the memories of that series will linger forever.

Great thread this!

Have I created a monster or what ????

please please no-one tell Vic about this thread my life won't be worth living ( lol )

Yes Allan I remember the last time the Aussie qualified last time also , I recall cheering loudly and booing the referee with much gusto ...

Matt I agree with the fantastic cricket that was played , yes either team could have one but it pains me much to say that yes the better team actually did win ..... dam NOW DON'T FOR %$### SAKE TELL VIC I SAID THAT ( lol )

I was very disappointed in the English in the last cup I thought they would win their team on paper was absolutely brilliant
but that's sport I suppose ..

We have made it and I watched it and nearly had another heart attack when we qualified bloody great stuff ....

On paper we are still in the top 2 or 3 teams in the world. Trouble is, the manager takes a nice bit of paper and turns it into scrap....

We will see, personally I think England have got into a phsycological barrier mentality. As soon as the quarter finals appear, they go to pieces.

Really, I can't speak highly enough of the cricket this summer. It put the footy crowd to shame, to see genuine sportsmanship at that level is very rare these days. It seemed to me that the atmosphere between the two teams was terrific, they both battled hard on the field but never lost sight of the meaning of the contest. Excellent advert for sport generally.

I think its a shame the Aussie team got back to a lot of flak. They have proved time and again that they are the best team in the world. I thought they were terrific. But for a change, we were just a tiny bit more terrific. That's sport.

I am amazed Vic isn't here......YET!

Earth calling VIC.....come in Vic.

Over and out

Harry Kewell is the only Liverpool player who can walk through the streets of Liverpool without being stopped and asked for an autograph - no one recognises him without a bench stuck to his backside....

Congrats to the Aussies on reaching the world cup finals....I can see it now, the final, England v Australia...Kewell misses the match, stepped on a ball in training...Viduka out for a first ball duck....and in the last minute of extra time, Stevie G scores the winner with a drop goal from 30 yards....

Oh wait...I'm getting confused here....

BTW, an Aussie won me a fair bit of money this year...after seeing Jamie Lyon play for Saints for the first time, I made a bee-line for the bookies, had £5 bet on him to win the "Man of Steel" .... he duly obliged at a nice juicy 20/1 - heh heh!!!!
