Dog,
Your right and that's why I would never consider myself a true "rock" guitar player no matter how good I got...I don't look like one. You gotta look the part and I certainly don't. So I'm limited to jamming in people's basements/bedrooms away from the public eye. But if I were playing guitar and I was 20 years old or so I'd grow my hair and look like Slash. Not sure about the hat though.
In the old hippie days of the 70's I did have long hair unfortunately I didn't play then. To busy with motorcycles, sports, partying and girls...Ha

I don't agree one this one with you. You don't have to 'look' like a rockstar. After all who is a rockstar ? IMO, he's the one who plays rock or punk etc and sings like that.
I don't think Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day looks like a Rockstar. He is 5'6'', not even tanned and no long hair. Still the way he sings, dresses up, plays the guitar and overall acts on stage makes him a true punk rock king. And now he is 35.
Rahul,
I'm only being somewhat serious although generally I do think that way to some extent. I like Green Day and Billy and he looked more like a rock star before they got famous. They can't of changed his look. But he's in a punk band any alot of those guys don't have short hair..but they do usually have tons of tattoo's.

Wouldn't having long hair, tattoos, etc. just like every other stereotypical rock star be, you know, conforming to the norm, which is, you know, kinda anti rock starish?
Storm,
Are you trying to trick me with some reverse logic?
By conforming to the rock star image is conforming maybe to the norm for rock stars but daimetrically opposed to conforming to the corporate/mainstream norm/image.
Rock n roll is all about pushing the envelope and going against the norm, it's about all the stuff your parents told you not to do.
